Novel hydrazones having the following structural formula

are provided, which are useful intermediates to form active ingredients of
herbicides, wherein R.sup.3 is hydrogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, or alkoxy
alkyl; and Q is [Q.sup.1 -1], [Q-2], [Q.sup.1 -3], [Q-4] or [Q-5] defined
herein.
