A process for preparing cyclopentene oligomer mixtures of the formula I ##STR1## comprises reacting in a homogeneously or heterogeneously catalyzed metathesis reaction a hydrocarbon mixture which contains cyclopentene and acyclic monoolefins and which originates from petroleum processing by cracking (C.sub.5 fraction); cyclopentene oligomers of the formula I obtainable by this process and their use are also described.

Ein Prozeß für das Vorbereiten der cyclopentene Oligomermischungen des Formel I ## STR1 ## enthält das Reagieren in der homogen oder heterogen katalysierten Metathesisreaktion eine Kohlenwasserstoffmischung, die cyclopentene und azyklische monoolefins enthält und die vom Erdöl entsteht, das indem es knackt (Bruch C.sub.5) verarbeitet; cyclopentene Oligomere der Formel I erreichbar durch diesen Prozeß und ihren Gebrauch werden auch beschrieben.
