The invention relates to a process for producing water-soluble or water-swellable polymer products with low levels of residual monomers using acrylic acid and/or acrylic acid derivatives, which process is characterized by adding a nitrogen compound to the monomer solution to be polymerized and subsequent heating of the polymer product at temperatures of from 120 to 240.degree. C. The polymers produced accordingly are suitable for use as flocculants, dispersants and absorbents.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour produire les produits hydrosolubles ou eau-gonflables de polymère avec les niveaux bas des monomères résiduels en utilisant l'acide acrylique et/ou les dérivés acides acryliques, que le processus est caractérisé en ajoutant un composé d'azote à la solution de monomère à polymériser et au chauffage suivant du produit de polymère aux températures de de 120 à 240.degree. C. Les polymères produits en conséquence conviennent pour l'usage comme floculants, dispersants et ouates.
