Bifunctional primer naphthalene compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein M" is an alkali metal, preferably sodium or lithium, and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are, e.g., alkyl radicals, are prepared from corresponding 1,5-diethenylnaphthalene derivatives, and are well suited for the improved anionic polymerization of diene, vinylaromatic and/or (meth)acrylic monomers.

Bifunctional samenstellingen die van het inleidingsnaftaleen de formule hebben: ## STR1 ## waarin M "een alkalimetaal, bij voorkeur natrium of lithium is, en R.sup.1 en R.sup.2, b.v., alkyl basissen zijn, worden voorbereidingen getroffen van overeenkomstige derivaten 1,5-diethenylnaphthalene, en zijn goed geschikt voor de betere anionische vinylaromatic polymerisatie van diene, en/of (meth)acrylic monomeren.
