An ester of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid is prepared by reacting the carboxylic acid with a C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 -alkanol, cyclopentanol or cyclohexanol in the presence of an acidic esterification catalyst and of an entraining agent for removing the water of reaction formed in the esterification, by a process in which the entraining agent used is the olefin on which the alkanol is based.

Ein Ester eines alpha..beta.-unsaturated karboxylhaltige Säure wird vorbereitet, indem man die karboxylhaltige Säure mit einem C.sub.6 - C.sub.12 - Alkanol reagiert, cyclopentanol oder Cyclohexanol in Anwesenheit eines säurehaltigen Esterifizierungkatalysators und von einem einkuppelnden Vertreter für das Entfernen des Wassers der Reaktion gebildet in der Esterifizierung, durch einen Prozeß, in dem das einkuppelnde benutzte Mittel das Olefin ist, auf dem das Alkanol basiert.
