Conjugates of a saccharide and an acetamidino- or guanidino-compound, of
the formula:

wherein A is CH.sub.3 or NH.sub.2 ; X is a linear or branched C.sub.1
-C.sub.8 alkyl chain optionally containing hydroxy, amino and/or oxo
groups; n is an integer from 1 to 6, and Sac is the residue of a mono-or
oligo-saccharide, provided that when A is NH.sub.2 and X is
-(CH.sub.2).sub.3 --CH(NH.sub.2)--C(=O)-, the monosaccharide residue is
not substituted at the position 1, and n is an integer from 2 to 6 when
Sac is the residue of an oligosaccharide, are useful as antiviral,
particularly as antiretroviral, agents, and can be used either alone or
together with other compounds used in AIDS treatment such as AZT and/or
protease inhibitors, for the treatment of HIV-infection, AIDS and
manifestations of AIDS such as Kaposi sarcoma. Particularly preferred
compounds are aminoglycoside-arginine conjugates in which the saccharide
is a natural aminoglycoside antibiotic such as kanamycin, gentamycin and
neomycin that is conjugated to arginine residues.
Paronyme eines Saccharids und des acetamidino- oder guanidino-zusammengesetztes, der Formel: ## STR1 ## worin A CH.sub.3 oder NH.sub.2 ist; X ist lineare oder ausgebrittene C.sub.1 - Alkylkette C.sub.8 beliebig enthalten Hydroxyl-, Amino- und/oder Oxogruppen; n ist eine Ganzzahl von 1 bis 6, und Beutel ist der Überrest von a Mono-oder von Oligosaccharid, vorausgesetzt daß, wenn A NH.sub.2 ist und X ist -(CH.sub.2).sub.3 -- CH(NH.sub.2) -- C(=O) -, der Monosaccharidüberrest wird nicht in der Position 1 ersetzt, und n ist eine Ganzzahl von 2 bis 6, wenn Beutel der Überrest eines Oligosaccharids ist, sind nützliches so Antiviren, besonders wie antiretroviral, Mittel und können entweder anderen Mitteln alleine oder zusammen mit verwendet werden, die in der AIDS-Behandlung wie AZT und/oder Proteasehemmnisse, für die Behandlung der HIV-Infektion, AIDS und Äusserungen von AIDS wie Kaposi Sarkom benutzt werden. Besonders bevorzugte Mittel sind Aminoglycosidearginin Paronyme, in denen das Saccharid ein natürliches aminoglycoside Antibiotikum wie Kanamykin, gentamycin und Neomycin ist, das zu den Argininüberresten konjugiert wird.
