There is provided a method for transferring novel genetic materials into maize. The method for deriving these new genes is via wide cross hybrid plants produced by crossing two wild relatives of maize, Eastern gamagrass (Tripsacum) and perennial teosinte (Zea diploperennis). This invention thus relates to the novel genetic materials in hybrid seed, the hybrid plant produced by the seed and/or tissue culture, variants, mutants, modifications, and cellular and molecular components of Tripsacum-perennial teosinte hybrids, and the hybrid seed, the hybrid plant produced by the seed and/or tissue culture, variants, mutants, modifications, and cellular and molecular components of (maize X Tripsacum-perennial teosinte) and/or (Tripsacum-perennial teosinte X maize). In particular this invention is directed to the ability to transfer de novo nucleotide sequences and novel alleles from Tripsacum to maize for use in genetic analyses and selection of novel genotypes with enhanced agronomic traits such as insect and disease resistance, drought tolerance, cold tolerance, tolerance to water-logging, apomixis, totipotency, perennialism, as well as adaptation to adverse soil conditions and a carbon dioxide enriched atmosphere via (maize X Tripsacum-perennial teosinte) hybrids in corn improvement programs.

É fornecido um método transferindo materiais genetic da novela no maize. O método para derivar estes genes novos é através das plantas largas do híbrido transversal produzidas cruzando dois parentes selvagens do maize, de gamagrass orientais (Tripsacum) e do teosinte perennial (diploperennis de Zea). Esta invenção relaciona-se assim aos materiais genetic da novela na semente hybrid, a planta hybrid produzida pela cultura da semente e/ou do tecido, variants, mutants, modificações, e componentes celulares e molecular de híbrido Tripsacum-tripsacum-perennial do teosinte, e a semente hybrid, a planta hybrid produzida pela cultura da semente e/ou do tecido, variants, mutants, modificações, e componentes celulares e molecular de (teosinte Tripsacum-tripsacum-perennial do maize X) e/ou (maize Tripsacum-tripsacum-perennial do teosinte X). No detalhe esta invenção é dirigida à abilidade de transferir seqüências do nucleotide de de novo e alleles da novela de Tripsacum ao maize para o uso em análises genetic e a seleção de genotypes da novela com traços agronomic realçados tais como o inseto e a resistência da doença, tolerância da seca, tolerância fria, tolerância ao water-logging, apomixis, totipotency, perennialism, as.well.as a adaptação às condições adversas do solo e uma atmosfera enriquecida do dióxido de carbono através (dos híbrido do teosinte Tripsacum-tripsacum-perennial do maize X) em programas de melhoria do milho.
