C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl 2-keto-L-gulonates are prepared by esterifying 2-keto-L-gulonic acid or diacetone-2-keto-L-gulonic acid with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alcohol in the presence of an acidic catalyst by a process in which the esterification is carried out in a liquid film on a hot surface with simultaneous removal of water.

C.sub.1 - C.sub.10 - o alkyl 2-keto-L-gulonates é preparado esterifying o ácido 2-keto-L-gulonic ou o ácido de diacetone-2-keto-L-gulonic com um C.sub.1 - C.sub.10 - álcool na presença de um catalizador acidic por um processo em que o esterification é realizado em uma película líquida em uma superfície quente com remoção simultânea da água.
