A process for manufacturing Simvastatin is provided comprising reacting lovastatin with an organic boronic acid to produce a derivative of lovastatin (lovastatin phenylboronate) methylating the 2-methylbutyryloxy group on the lovastatin derivative to form a 2,2-dimethylbutyryloxy group on the lovastatin derivative and thereafter removing the boronate group to produce simvastatin.

Een proces voor productie Simvastatin wordt bestaand het reageren uit lovastatin voorzien van een organisch boronic zuur om een derivaat van lovastatin die (lovastatin phenylboronate) te produceren de 2-methylbutyryloxygroep op het lovastatinderivaat méthyleert om een groep 2,2-dimethylbutyryloxy op het lovastatinderivaat te vormen en daarna de boronategroep verwijdert om simvastatin te produceren.
