A thermosetting composition that includes: (a) a crosslinking agent having at least two functional groups reactive with hydroxyl groups; and (b) a non-gelled, hydroxyl functional polymer prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization. The polymer contains at least one of the following polymer chain structures: --{(M).sub.p --(G).sub.q }.sub.x -- or --{(G).sub.q --(M).sub.p }.sub.x -- wherein M is a residue, that is free of hydroxyl functionality, of at least one monomer; G is a residue, that has hydroxyl functionality, of at least one monomer; p and q represent average numbers of residues occurring in a block of residues in each polymer chain structure; and p, q, and x are each independently selected for each structure such that the hydroxyl functional polymer has a number average molecular weight of at least 250. Also provided are methods of coating a substrate using compositions of the present invention and substrates coated by such methods, as well as color-plus-clear composite coatings.

Ein thermostatoplastischer Aufbau, der einschließt: (a) gruppiert ein querverbindenes Mittel, das mindestens zwei Funktionsgruppen reagierend sind mit Hydroxyl hat; und (b) bereiteten sich nicht-gelatiert, Hydroxylfunktionspolymer-Plastik durch Atomübergangsradikalpolymerisierung vor. Das Polymer-Plastik enthält eine mindestens der folgenden Polymer-Plastik Kette Strukturen: -- {(M).sub.p -- (G).sub.q}.sub.x -- oder -- {(G).sub.q -- (M).sub.p}.sub.x -- worin M ein Überrest ist, das ist von der Hydroxylfunktionalität, von mindestens einer Monomere frei; G ist ein Überrest, der hat Hydroxylfunktionalität, von mindestens einer Monomere; p und q stellen die durchschnittlichen Anzahlen von den Überresten dar, die in einem Block der Überreste in jeder Polymer-Plastik Kette Struktur auftreten; und p, q und x sind jedes, das unabhängig für jede Struktur so vorgewählt wird, daß das Hydroxylfunktionspolymer-Plastik ein Zahldurchschnitt Molekulargewicht von 250 mindestens hat. Auch gestellt Methoden des Beschichtens eines Substrates mit Aufbau der anwesenden Erfindung und der Substrate zur Verfügung, die durch solche Methoden, sowie Farbe-plus-freie zusammengesetzte Schichten beschichtet werden.
