A process for the preparation of carvone comprises hydrogenating carvoxime in the presence of a selecively poisoned catalyst. Preferred catalysts include noble metals supported on inorganic materials poisoned with a catalyst modifier. In a preferred embodiment of the process defined herein, the crude carvone reaction product produced in accordance with the process of the invention, is purified by treating the crude carvone product with an organometallic compound M(X).sub.n wherein M is a polyvalent metal, n is the valence of M and X denotes an inorganic or organic atom or group.

Un procédé pour la préparation de la carvone comporte le carvoxime d'hydrogénation en présence d'un catalyseur selecively empoisonné. Les catalyseurs préférés incluent les métaux nobles soutenus sur les matériaux inorganiques empoisonnés avec un modificateur de catalyseur. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré du processus défini ci-dessus, le produit brut de réaction de carvone produit selon le procédé de l'invention, est épuré en traitant le produit brut de carvone avec un composé organométallique M(X).sub.n où M est un métal polyvalent, n est la valence de M et X dénote un atome ou un groupe inorganique ou organique.
