A water-soluble or water-dispersible material for deposition onto a fabric substrate during a treatment process. The material comprises a .beta..sub.1-4 -linked polysaccharide structure having at least one substituent benefit agent group and optionally, one or more other substituent groups. The average degree of substitution of all substituent groups is from 0.01 to 1.2, preferably from 0.1 to 1.2, more preferably from 0.4 to 1.2. The polysaccharide structure has one or more regions with at least 3, preferably at least 4 consecutive unsubstituted saccharide rings.

Un material soluble en agua o water-dispersible para la deposición sobre un substrato de la tela durante un proceso del tratamiento. El material abarca un beta..sub.1-4 - estructura ligada del polisacárido que tiene por lo menos un grupo del agente de la ventaja del sustituto y opcionalmente, unos o más otros grupos del sustituto. El grado medio de substitución de todos los grupos del sustituto es a partir la 0.01 a 1.2, preferiblemente a partir la 0.1 a 1.2, preferiblemente a partir la 0.4 a 1.2. La estructura del polisacárido tiene unas o más regiones con por lo menos 3, preferiblemente por lo menos 4 anillos sin sustituir consecutivos del saccharide.
