According to the present invention, a method of preparing a
silacycloalkane, comprising the steps of (A) adding a substituted
silacycloalkane having the formula:

wherein X.sup.1 is --F, --Cl, --Br, or --OR.sup.1 and X.sup.2 is X.sup.1 or
H, wherein R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 hydrocarbyl, and n is 1, 2, or 3,
to a suspension of lithium aluminum hydride in a glycol diether at a
temperature not greater than 50.degree. C. to form a mixture, wherein the
glycol diether consists essentially of a linear arrangement of oxyalkylene
units having formulae independently selected from --OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --,
--OCH.sub.2 CH(CH.sub.3)--, and --OCH.sub.2 CH(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3)--, and
end-groups having the formulae --R.sup.2 and --OR.sup.2, wherein each
R.sup.2 is independently selected from C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, phenyl, and
C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl-substituted phenyl, provided the glycol diether has
a normal boiling point of at least 85.degree. C. and a viscosity not
greater than 3000 mm.sup.2 /s at 25.degree. C.; and (B) distilling the
mixture under reduced pressure at a temperature not greater than
50.degree. C. to remove the silacycloalkane.
Secondo la presente invenzione, un metodo di preparazione del silacycloalkane, contenente i punti (A) che aggiungono un silacycloalkane sostituito che ha la formula: ## del ## STR1 in cui X.sup.1 è --F, il Cl, il Br, o -- OR.sup.1 e X.sup.2 è X.sup.1 o H, in cui R.sup.1 è C.sub.1 - il hydrocarbyl C.sub.8 e la n è 1, 2, o 3, ad una sospensione dell'idruro di alluminio del litio in un diether del glicol ad una temperatura non più grande di 50.degree. C. per formare una miscela, in cui il diether del glicol è costituito essenzialmente da una disposizione lineare delle unità del oxyalkylene che hanno formule selezionate indipendentemente a partire -- OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --. -- OCH.sub.2 CH(CH.sub.3) --. e -- OCH.sub.2 CH(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3) - - ed estremità-gruppi che hanno le formule -- R.sup.2 e -- OR.sup.2, in cui ogni R.sup.2 è scelto indipendentemente da C.sub.1 - C.sub.8 alchilici, fenilici e C.sub.1 - fenile sostituto d'alchile C.sub.8, se il diether del glicol ha un punto di ebollizione normale almeno di 85.degree. C. e una viscosità non più notevolmente di 3000 mm.sup.2 /s a 25.degree. C.; e (B) distillando la miscela a pressione ridotta ad una temperatura non più grande di 50.degree. C. per rimuovere il silacycloalkane.
