A ROM cartridge 20 and a disk drive 30 are detachably attached to slots 103 and 104 of an information processing unit 10. A magnetic disk 40 is detachably attached to a slot 302 of the disk drive 30. A semiconductor storage device storing a game program and data is provided inside of the ROM cartridge 20. The information processing unit 10 detects whether the ROM cartridge 20 is attached to the slot 103 and whether the disk drive 30 is attached to the slot 104. Then the information processing unit 10 performs predetermined information processing on a basis of program data stored in the ROM cartridge 20 or the disk drive 30 when detecting that the ROM cartridge 20 or the disk drive 30 is attached to the slot 103 or 104, and starts information processing on the basis of the program data stored in the ROM cartridge 20 when detecting that both of the ROM cartridge 20 and the disk drive 30 are attached to the slots 103 and 104.

Eine ROM Patrone 20 und ein Laufwerk 30 werden detachably zu Schlitzen 103 und 104 einer Informationsverarbeitungmaßeinheit 10 angebracht. Eine magnetische Scheibe 40 wird detachably zu einem Schlitz 302 des Laufwerks 30 angebracht. Eine Halbleiterspeichervorrichtung, die ein Spielprogramm und -daten speichert, wird innerhalb der ROM Patrone 20 zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Informationsverarbeitungmaßeinheit 10 ermittelt, ob die ROM Patrone 20 zum Schlitz 103 angebracht wird und ob das Laufwerk 30 zum Schlitz 104 angebracht wird. Dann führt die Informationsverarbeitungmaßeinheit 10 vorbestimmte die Informationsverarbeitung auf einer Grundlage der Programmdaten durch, die in der ROM Patrone 20 oder im Laufwerk 30 gespeichert werden, wenn sie ermittelt, daß die ROM Patrone 20 oder das Laufwerk 30 zum Schlitz 103 oder 104 angebracht und die Informationsverarbeitung auf der Grundlage der Programmdaten beginnt wird, die in der ROM Patrone 20 gespeichert werden, wenn man ermittelt, daß beide der ROM Patrone 20 und des Laufwerks 30 zu den Schlitzen 103 und 104 angebracht werden.
