The present invention provides polynucleotide sequences (bbp) encoding a Bak Binding Protein (BBP) and fragments thereof that bind to Bak. The invention also provides a BBP which binds to Bak. The invention also provides recombinant host cells containing polynucleotides encoding BBP. The invention further provides antibodies that specifically bind to BBP. The invention further provides methods for detecting agents such as drugs that alter the binding of a BBP with a Bak protein. The invention neither provides methods for detecting the presence of bbp or BBP in a biological sample, and further provides methods for modulating the levels of BBP in a cell. This invention additionally encompasses novel peptides, designated the "BBP Binding Domains" and the respective nucleotides, designated "bbpbd-1" and "bbpbd-2" which arc involved in the interaction between Bak and BBP.

Die anwesende Erfindung liefert die polynucleotide Reihenfolgen (bbp) ein Bak verbindliches Protein (BBP) und Fragmente davon kodierend, die an Bak binden. Die Erfindung liefert auch ein BBP, das an Bak bindet. Die Erfindung liefert auch die recombinant Wirtszellen, welche die polynucleotides enthalten, die BBP kodieren. Die weitere Erfindung liefert Antikörper, die spezifisch an BBP binden. Die weitere Erfindung stellt Methoden für das Ermitteln der Mittel wie Drogen zur Verfügung, die die Schwergängigkeit eines BBP mit einem Bak Protein ändern. Die Erfindung keine stellt Methoden für das Ermitteln des Vorhandenseins von bbp oder von BBP in einer biologischen Probe zur Verfügung und stellt weiter Methoden für das Modulieren der Niveaus von BBP in einer Zelle zur Verfügung. Diese Erfindung gibt zusätzlich die Romanpeptide um, das "BBP gekennzeichnet verbindliche Gebiete" und die jeweiligen Nukleotide, gekennzeichnet "bbpbd-1" und "bbpbd-2", die beteiligt in der Interaktion zwischen Bak und BBP einen Bogen bilden.
