The invention provides novel conjugated polymers comprised of arylamine-substituted poly(arylene vinylenes). The polymers have the general structure (I) ##STR1## wherein: Ar is arylene, heteroarylene, substituted arylene or substituted heteroarylene containing one to three aromatic rings; R.sup.1 is an arylamine substituent having the formula --Ar.sup.1 --N(R.sup.4 R.sup.5) wherein Ar.sup.1 is as defined for Ar and R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl, heteroatom-containing hydrocarbyl, or substituted heteroatom-containing hydrocarbyl, or together form a cyclic group; and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrido, halo and cyano, or may be as defined for R.sup.4 and R.sup.5, or may together form a triple bond. Monomeric precursors and methods of synthesizing the precursors are also provided, as are electroluminescence and other devices containing a polymer of the invention.

L'invention fournit les polymères conjugués par roman consistés en les vinylenes arylamine-substitués de poly(arylene). Les polymères ont le ## général du ## STR1 de la structure (i) où : Ar est arylene, heteroarylene, arylene substitué ou heteroarylene substitué contenant un à trois anneaux aromatiques ; R.sup.1 est un substituant d'arylamine ayant la formule -- Ar.sup.1 -- hydrocarbyl de N(R.sup.4 R.sup.5) où Ar.sup.1 est comme défini pour Ar et R.sup.4 et R.sup.5 sont indépendamment hydrocarbyl, substitué, heteroatom-contenant le hydrocarbyl, ou substitué heteroatom-contenir le hydrocarbyl, ou constituent ensemble un groupe cyclique ; et R.sup.2 et R.sup.3 sont indépendamment choisis dans le groupe le hydrido, le halo et le cyano , ou peuvent être comme définis pour R.sup.4 et R.sup.5, ou peuvent ensemble former une obligation triple. Des précurseurs monomériques et les méthodes de synthétiser les précurseurs sont également fournis, de même qu'electroluminescence et d'autres dispositifs contenant un polymère de l'invention.
