Disclosed are a method of dispersing a pigment, a pigment dispersion, a coating composition comprising said pigment dispersion, an method of making a coating composition, and a method of improving the appearance of a coating composition. The pigment dispersion of the invention requires at least one pigment subjected to an action to decrease the average particle size of the pigment in the presence of an amine functional cellulose ester resin. The amine functional cellulose ester resins comprise at least one repeat unit of the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are selected independently from the group consisting of hydrogen, R.sub.4 C.dbd.O, and ##STR2## wherein at least one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 is hydrogen, at least one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 is R.sub.4 C.dbd.O, and at least one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, or R.sub.3 have the structure ##STR3## R.sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl groups, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 phenyl groups, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 napthyl groups, and C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkenyl groups, L is a divalent linking group and R.sub.6 is selected from the group consisting of H and compounds having at least one secondary amine group, tertiary amine group, and mixtures thereof.

Gegeben eine Methode des Zerstreuens eines Pigments, eine Pigmentzerstreuung, ein beschichtender Aufbau, der besagte Pigmentzerstreuung enthalten, eine Produktionsmethode einen beschichtenden Aufbau und eine Methode des Verbesserns des Aussehens eines beschichtenden Aufbaus frei. Die Pigmentzerstreuung der Erfindung erfordert mindestens ein Pigment, das einer Tätigkeit unterworfen wird, um die durchschnittliche Teilchengröße des Pigments in Anwesenheit eines Aminfunktionszelluloseesterharzes zu verringern. Die Aminfunktionszelluloseesterharze enthalten mindestens eine Wiederholung Maßeinheit von der Struktur: ## STR1 ## worin R.sub.1, R.sub.2 und R.sub.3 unabhängig von der Gruppe vorgewählt werden, die aus Wasserstoff, R.sub.4 C.dbd.O und ## STR2 ##, worin eins mindestens von R.sub.1, R.sub.2 und R.sub.3, besteht Wasserstoff ist, eins ist mindestens von R.sub.1, R.sub.2 und R.sub.3 R.sub.4 C.dbd.O, und eins mindestens von R.sub.1, R.sub.2 oder R.sub.3 haben das Struktur ## STR3 ## R.sub.4 wird vorgewählt von der Gruppe, die aus C.sub.1 besteht - C.sub.20 Alkylgruppen, C.sub.1 - C.sub.20 Phenyl- Gruppen, C.sub.1 - napthyl C.sub.20 Gruppen und C.sub.1 - alkenyl Gruppen C.sub.20, ist L eine zweiwertige verbindengruppe und R.sub.6 wird von der Gruppe vorgewählt, die besteht aus H und Mitteln mindestens eine Sekundäramingruppe, Gruppe des tertiären Amins und Mischungen davon haben.
