There is disclosed an improved process for the preparation of a compound of
the formula I

wherein n is 0 or 1, R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl or --CH.sub.2
SR.sub.3, R.sub.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.9
phenylalkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 -phenylalkyl substituted on the phenyl
radical by from 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl groups; or --CH.sub.2
SR.sub.3, R.sub.3 is C.sub.6 -C.sub.18 alkyl, phenyl or benzyl, R.sub.4 is
hydrogen or methyl, R.sub.5 is hydrogen or methyl, with the proviso that
R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are not simultaneously methyl, by reacting a compound
of the formula II

wherein n, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are as previously defined, R.sub.11 is
hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl; and R.sub.12 is hydrogen, C.sub.1
-C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 phenylalkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.9
phenylalkyl substituted on the phenyl radical by from 1 to 3 C.sub.1
-C.sub.4 alkyl groups; with formaldehyde or a compound that liberates
formaldehyde under the reaction conditions and with at least one compound
of the formula III
R.sub.3 SH (III)
wherein R.sub.3 is as previously defined, in the presence of a base, said
base being mono- or dimethylamine or mono- or diethylamine, which process
comprises treating afterwards the reaction product with a reducing agent.
Er onthuld een beter proces wordt voor de voorbereiding van een samenstelling van formule I ## STR1 ## waarin n 0 of 1 is, is R.sub.1 C.sub.1 - alkyl C.sub.12 of -- CH.sub.2 SR.sub.3, is R.sub.2 C.sub.1 - C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.7 - C.sub.9 phenylalkyl, C.sub.7 - C.sub.9 - phenylalkyl die op de phenyl basis langs van 1 tot 3 C.sub.1 wordt gesubstitueerd - alkyl groepen C.sub.4; of -- CH.sub.2 SR.sub.3, R.sub.3 is C.sub.6 - alkyl C.sub.18, phenyl of benzyl, R.sub.4 is waterstof of methyl, R.sub.5 is waterstof of methyl, op voorwaarde dat R.sub.4 en R.sub.5 niet gelijktijdig methyl zijn, door een reagerende samenstelling van formule II ## STR2 ## waarin n, R.sub.4 en R.sub.5 zoals eerder bepaald zijn, is R.sub.11 waterstof of C.sub.1 - alkyl C.sub.12; en R.sub.12 is waterstof, C.sub.1 - C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.7 - C.sub.9 phenylalkyl, C.sub.7 - phenylalkyl C.sub.9 die op de phenyl basis langs van 1 tot 3 C.sub.1 wordt gesubstitueerd - alkyl groepen C.sub.4; met formaldehyde of een samenstelling die formaldehyde in de reactieomstandigheden en met minstens één samenstelling van formule III SH R.sub.3 bevrijdt (Iii) waarin R.sub.3 zoals die eerder wordt bepaald, in aanwezigheid van een basis is, bovengenoemde basis - of dimethylamine of mono mono zijn - of diëthylamine die, welk proces daarna uit het behandelen van het reactieproduct met een verminderende agent bestaat.
