Azo dyes of Formula (1) have utility as dyes for ink-jet printing, where Formula (1) represents: ##STR1## which comprises any suitable form of the compound: such as salt; stereoisomer, zwitterion, polymorph, complex, isotopic form, combinations thereof in the same species and mixtures thereof; where: n represents from 1 to 5 inclusive; R.sup.1, R.sup.1B, R.sup.4 and R.sup.4B each independently comprises at least one of the following substituents, optionally substituted: H, C.sub.1-8 alkyl; C.sub.1-8,alkoxy; --NHCOH, C.sub.1-8 alkylcarbonylamino; and --NHCONR.sup.5 R.sup.6 where R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 each independently comprises at least one of the following substituents: H, C.sub.1-8 alkyl and aryl; and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 each independently comprises at least one of the following substituents, optionally substituted: H; C.sub.1-8 alkoxy; -NHC.sub.1-8 alkyleneOH, --SC.sub.1-8 -alkyleneSO.sub.3 H; -NHC.sub.1-8 alkyleneN(C.sub.1-8 alkyl).sub.2 ; ##STR2## where X comprises one of the following: --NHC.sub.1-8 alkylene; --NHphenylSO.sub.2 NHC.sub.1-8 alkylene; and a direct link, ##STR3## where X comprises one of the following: --NHC.sub.1-8 alkylene; --NHphenylSO.sub.2 NHC.sub.1-8 alkylene; and a direct link; ##STR4## a moiety of Formula (2) where m and p is each independently from 0 to 5 inclusive, provided that (m+p) is from 1 to 5 inclusive; and R.sup.1A, R.sup.2A, R.sup.4A and R.sup.4C each independently comprises at least one of those optionally substituted substituents as defined herein for R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.4 and R.sup.4B respectively; and any other suitable labile or non-labile substituent not mentioned above; where the optional substituents herein comprise: C.sub.1-4 alkyl (optionally substituted with at least one halo)., C.sub.1-4 alkoxy (optionally substituted with at least one halo), carboxy, sulpho, hydroxy, amino, mercapto, cyano, nitro and halo.
