In a packet radio network, a mobile station (MS) has an active state and a standby state. In the active state, the mobile station performs data transmission and updates its location more often than in the standby state. The mobile station changes from the active state to the standby state if there is no data transmission during a predetermined period. The packet radio network (SGSN) may also direct, if required, the mobile station (MS) from the active state to the standby state. The mobile station (MS) transmits to the packet radio network a short pseudo data packet either before the timer expires or in response to a command transmitted by the packet network to change the state (GO STANDBY) when the mobile station wants to stay in the active state.

In una rete della radio del pacchetto, una stazione mobile (MS) fa ad un attivo e dichiarare ad uno standby dichiara. Nel attivo dichiari, la stazione mobile effettua la trasmissione di dati ed aggiorna la relativa posizione più spesso di nello standby dichiari. La stazione mobile cambia dal attivo dichiara allo standby dichiara se non ci è trasmissione di dati durante il periodo predeterminato. La rete della radio del pacchetto (SGSN) può anche dirigere, a richiesta, la stazione mobile (MS) dal attivo dichiara allo standby dichiara. La stazione mobile (MS) trasmette alla rete che della radio del pacchetto un pacchetto pseudo corto di dati o prima che il temporizzatore espiri o in risposta ad un ordine ha trasmesso tramite la rete del pacchetto per cambiare il dichiarare (VA LO STANDBY) quando la stazione mobile desidera rimanere nel attivo dichiara.
