A method of replenishing plasmalogens in mammals comprising treatment with a plasmalogen-replenishing-effective amount of one or more stantially pure monoethers of glycerols and their carboxylic acid ester derivatives of Formula I: ##STR1## wherein R is a C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group; and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are, each independently, hydrogen or an acyl moiety {--C(.dbd.O)--R.sup.3 } wherein R.sup.3 is a linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 alkyl or alkenyl; and pharmaceutically-acceptable salts thereof, is disclosed. Nutritional supplements, dietary supplements and food additives comprising one or more substantially pure compounds of Formula I is also disclosed.

Een methode om plasmalogens in zoogdieren bij te vullen bestaand uit behandeling met een plasmalogen-bij:vullen-efficiënte hoeveelheid van één of meerdere stantially zuivere monoethers van glycerols en hun carboxylic zure esterderivaten van Formule I: ## STR1 ## waarin R een C.sub.12 - lineaire of vertakte alkyl of alkenyl groep C.sub.22 is; en R.sup.1 en R.sup.2 zijn onafhankelijk, elk, waterstof of een acyl deel {- - C(.dbd.O) -- R.sup.3} waarin R.sup.3 een lineaire of vertakte C.sub.1 is - alkyl C.sub.30 of alkenyl; en pharmaceutically-acceptable zouten daarvan, wordt onthuld. De voedings supplementen, de dieetsupplementen en de additieven voor levensmiddelen die uit één of meerdere wezenlijk zuivere samenstellingen van Formule I bestaan worden ook onthuld.
